【Summary】

History of the Islands and Ports of the Persian Gulf was written by Muḥammad-Ḥusayn Saʿādat Kāzarūnī (1282–1354 A.H.), who was born in Najaf and passed away in Shiraz. The book is his second major work, following The History of Bushehr (published in 1390 A.H.).

After teaching at Dār al-Muʿallimīn and the Eftetāḥīyeh School in Tehran, Saʿādat was appointed in 1317 A.H., by order of the Minister of Education during the Muzaffarid era, as principal and teacher of the Saʿādat School in Bushehr. In 1342 A.H., he served as the representative of Larestan in the National Consultative Assembly (Majles). He later returned to Shiraz, where he held several important positions, including principal of the Shoʿāʿīyeh School, head of the Endowments Research Office, and acting director of education for Fars Province.

Although nearly a century has passed since the book was written, the author’s profound knowledge of Iranian history and culture, his innovative perspective, and his active engagement in cultural and political affairs continue to make this work valuable. It remains an important source not only for the history of the Persian Gulf and its islands but also for cultural and economic planning related to southern Iran.

The only known manuscript of this work, formerly belonging to ʿAlī-Aṣghar Ḥikmat, is currently preserved in the Central Library of the University of Tehran.
