This book offers an in-depth analysis of one of the most refined Persian Sufi Qurʾanic commentaries, Kashf al-Asrār wa ʿUddat al-Abrār, authored by Rashīd al-Dīn Maybudī, a sixth-century A.H. exegete. Annabel Keeler approaches Maybudī’s work primarily from a hermeneutical perspective, focusing on the distinctive interpretive and mystical methods through which the Qurʾan is read and explicated.

The study explores the dynamic interaction between hermeneutical principles and Qurʾanic teachings in the formation of a Sufi commentary, paying particular attention to the relationship between Qurʾanic verses, mystical experience, and exegetical language.
