The principal Persian narrative source on the Seljuq dynasty, composed shortly before the dynasty’s demise and is foundational for later Persian historiography.
Saljūqnāmah was written shortly before the end of the Seljuq dynasty and became the primary narrative source for subsequent Persian-language historians of Seljuq history. It is widely regarded as the most important Persian prose account for understanding the Seljuqs and is earlier than many major Arabic sources on the same subject. Little is known about the author; however, he is said to have written the work around the age of sixty during the reign of Ṭughril Beg (429–455 A.H. / 1038–1063 C.E.), and he may have served as a tutor to Alp Arslan and Masʿūd.
