【Summary】
Tafsīr-i Baṣāʾir-i Yamīnī is one of the earliest Persian-language Qurʾanic commentaries, authored by Qāḍī Muʿīn al-Dīn Muḥammad b. Maḥmūd Nīshābūrī, who was active around 547 A.H. The work was composed during the reign of Bahrām-Shāh of Ghazna (r. 511–552 A.H.). Since Bahrām-Shāh—like his grandfather—bore the honorific title Yamīn al-Dawla, the designation Yamīnī is generally understood as a reference to this royal epithet.
From the perspective of Persian prose history, the commentary is of considerable importance and is regarded as a polished and elegant example of classical Persian religious writing. In explicating each Qurʾanic verse, the author addresses its associated themes in accordance with the conventions of early tafsīr, incorporating historical material, transmitted reports, narratives of the prophets, and other relevant traditions. The work thus provides valuable insight into both the exegetical practices and the literary culture of the Ghaznavid period.
