【Summary】
Laṭāʾif al-Tafsīr, completed in 519 A.H., is one of the most valuable monuments of Islamic culture and classical Persian prose, and is counted as the fourth complete and comprehensive commentary on the Qurʾān. Composed in Bukhara and later disseminated widely in India, the work reflects the exceptional linguistic richness of Transoxania, preserving some of the earliest attested forms of Persian literary language.
The commentary is of particular importance for scholars of the history of Persian, the history of translation from Arabic into Persian, and related linguistic domains such as morphology, orthography, and prose style. Owing to its circulation history, the work is also known in some catalogues and sources under alternate titles, including Laṭāyif al-ʿIrfān, Tafsīr-i Sayf al-Dīn, and Tafsīr-i Zāhidī. This critical edition makes accessible a foundational text for Qurʾanic exegesis and Persian philology.
