【Summary】

Jāmiʿ al-Lughāt is a rare verse dictionary composed by the poet and scholar Niyāzī Ḥijāzī, also known as Niyāzī Bukhārī, in the second half of the 10th century A.H. The work contains approximately 1,600 lexical items drawn from Persian, Arabic, and other languages, arranged in 162 poetic sections comprising 611 verses composed in eight classical prosodic meters.

Only a limited number of early Persian verse dictionaries have survived, which makes this work particularly significant. Jāmiʿ al-Lughāt served as one of the sources for later major lexicographical works such as Jahāngīrī and Majmaʿ al-Furs. Its unique surviving manuscript, preserved in the Sepahsālār Higher School Library, provides valuable evidence of regional and period-specific linguistic usage, including natural expressions and idiomatic constructions reflective of the author’s milieu.
