【Summary】
This work is devoted to religious and mystical ethics. In presenting his arguments, the author frequently cites Qurʾanic verses, divine and prophetic traditions, and sayings of early spiritual masters, drawing on a number of rare sources. The book is especially notable for its poetic citations, which include verses by major poets of the 4th and 5th centuries A.H. In some cases, it preserves the only surviving examples of poets whose works have otherwise been lost, such as Samarkandī poets of that period.
Another distinctive feature of Irshād is its use of pure and archaic Persian verbs and expressions alongside Arabic vocabulary. Written in a clear, fluent, and engaging prose style, the work represents an important example of early Persian ethical and devotional literature.
