【Summary】
This work is a newly identified and highly valuable source for the three-year period of Emperor Nūr al-Dīn Jahāngīr’s reign, from 24 Rajab 1017 to 19 Ramaḍān 1020 A.H. The author, who personally witnessed and participated in the emperor’s nightly gatherings, recorded the events and conversations of these sessions in 122 separate assemblies. Majālis-i Jahāngīrī represents an unofficial cultural history of Jahāngīr’s court, providing rich information on literary and artistic life, as well as the presence and activities of Iranian and Transoxanian poets, artists, and statesmen at the Mughal court. The work is an important source for understanding the intellectual and cultural exchanges between Iran and the Indian subcontinent in the early 11th century A.H.
