【Summary】

Shāh Jahāngīr Hāshimī Kirmānī (pen name: Hāshimī) was a 10th-century A.H. poet and mystic, born in Kirmān into a family associated with learning and Sufi piety, with a lineage traced to Shāh Niʿmatullāh Walī. Biographical and historical reports indicate that he spent parts of his life traveling and settled in Sindh (present-day Pakistan) in his later years, where the Arghūn rulers and notable figures of the region respected him.

His principal mystical poem, Mathnavī-yi Maẓhar al-Āthār, was composed in this milieu. Explicitly patterned after Niẓāmī’s Makhzan al-Asrār, the work is structured around devotional supplications, praise of the Prophet, illustrative anecdotes, and moral-spiritual counsel. Noted for its warm and compelling voice, it offers a didactic yet affective mode of Sufi instruction.

Despite the poem’s importance and the author’s standing, a satisfactory introduction and critical text had long been lacking. This edition has been established through extensive work on multiple manuscript witnesses and is accompanied by an introduction that presents a detailed account of the poet’s life, his literary position, and a stylistic analysis of Maẓhar al-Āthār.
