【Summary】
The Dīvān of Muḥammad Amīn Vaqārī Ṭabasī Yazdī (alive until 1098 A.H.), known by the pen name “Vaqārī,” is a comprehensive collection of his poetic works. Vaqārī was among the learned scholars, poets, writers, and scribes of the Safavid period. His father, ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ, migrated from Ṭabas to Yazd, where Vaqārī was raised, later reaching intellectual and artistic maturity in Isfahan.
He was highly skilled in poetry, prose composition, prosody, and rhyme, to the extent that some contemporaries referred to him as “Jāmiʿ al-Kamālāt” (the possessor of comprehensive excellences). In ghazal poetry, he represents a moderate strand of the Indian style (sabk-i hindī), marked by innovative imagery, fresh compounds, and vivid poetic visualization. In the qasida form, he is a powerful and accomplished poet, with themes centered on praise of the Fourteen Infallibles and eulogies of Safavid rulers and dignitaries.
His language and style show affinities with poets such as Anvarī and Ẓahīr Fāryābī. The present dīvān comprises a prose introduction, qasidas, fragments, ghazals, a mathnawī, chronograms, and riddles.
