【Summary】
Zīj-i Yamīnī was composed in 511 A.H. and dedicated to Bahrām Shāh, grandson of Sultan Maḥmūd of Ghazna. It is the second-oldest known Persian astronomical zīj after Zīj-i Mufrad (5th century A.H.).
The present critical edition is based on two extant manuscripts preserved in Hungary and Bulgaria and represents the first complete publication of the revised Persian text. The author drew primarily on the zīj of al-Battānī, while also relying on major sources such as Ptolemy’s Almagest and al-Bīrūnī’s al-Qānūn al-Masʿūdī.
In addition to astronomical and calendrical data, the work contains valuable historical information on the Ghaznavid dynasty, reflecting the author’s aim to produce a comprehensive and widely accessible scientific treatise.
