Ṣirāṭ al-Khaṭṭ is a short didactic poem of 273 verses composed by Sulṭān-ʿAlī Mashhadī, one of the most celebrated Persian calligraphers and calligraphic theorists. The poem was completed in 920 A.H. and offers a condensed yet systematic exposition of the fundamental principles and rules of Persian calligraphy.
Owing to its clarity, mnemonic verse form, and practical orientation, the work has attracted sustained attention from calligraphers and authors of instructional manuals from the time of its composition onward. It is widely regarded as one of the most important Persian texts for the teaching of calligraphy.
The present edition is published on the basis of the author’s own autograph manuscript, enhancing its textual authority and historical value.
