【Summary】
Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Zakariyyā al-Rāzī stands as one of the most luminous figures in the history of Iranian and Islamic science, having authored more than 230 works across medicine, philosophy, chemistry, and other disciplines. Among his most monumental contributions is the twenty-five-volume al-Ḥāwī fī al-Ṭibb, an encyclopedic synthesis of medical knowledge from Iran, Greece, India, and Egypt.
The present volume brings together Risālah fī Awjāʿ al-Mafāṣil and related materials addressing joint diseases, their causes, prevention, and treatment. Al-Rāzī’s clinical precision is evident in his systematic discussion of various joint pains and therapeutic strategies. The book further gains value by juxtaposing the critically edited Arabic text of Awjāʿ al-Mafāṣil with its 7th-century Persian translation, known as al-Ḥāṣil fī ʿIlāj al-Mafāṣil, and concluding with the Persian translation of al-Rāzī’s Risālah al-Niqris (Treatise on Gout).
By integrating textual criticism, translation history, and medical practice, this edition offers an indispensable source for the study of medieval Islamic medicine and its enduring clinical insights.
