【Summary】
al-Khuṭba al-Qāṣiʿa is traditionally regarded as the final sermon delivered by Imam ʿAlī in Kūfa during the last days of his life. In this sermon, Imam ʿAlī addressed fundamental theological, ethical, and spiritual matters of enduring importance. Over the centuries, however, the sermon was believed to have been largely lost, surviving only in fragmentary form within major Shiʿi sources such as al-Kāfī, al-Tawḥīd by Shaykh Ṣadūq, and Nahj al-Balāgha.
The latest known historical report of this sermon before the present edition appears in al-Yaqīn by Sayyid Ibn Ṭāwūs, who had access to an early manuscript reportedly copied in 208 A.H., though he too transmitted only limited portions of the text. The only complete surviving version of al-Khuṭba al-Qāṣiʿa is preserved in an autograph manuscript written by Ṣadr al-Dīn Qūnawī, one of the foremost mystics of the seventh century A.H. and a contemporary of Ibn Ṭāwūs.
This volume marks the first complete publication of the sermon, presented alongside the facsimile and scholarly edition of Qūnawī’s manuscript. As such, it constitutes a major contribution to Shiʿi ḥadīth studies, Islamic intellectual history, and the study of the transmission of early sermons attributed to Imam ʿAlī.
