【Summary】
Arbaʿīn al-ʿAlāʾī fī Kalām al-ʿAlī is a work by Yūsuf ibn Āybek al-Manfaʿī, an eighth-century scholar active in Anatolia, dedicated to ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Beg, a ruler of the Karamanid dynasty. The author selected forty sayings attributed to ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, drawing primarily on Nahj al-Balāgha, and provided Persian translations and explanatory commentaries.
As a devoted admirer of Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī, the author frequently cites Rūmī’s poetry in his explanations, weaving Sufi perspectives into the interpretation of the sayings.
The present critical edition is based on the sole extant manuscript of the work—copied by the author himself in 783 A.H.—and preserved in the Fatih Library. This edition thus offers a reliable text of an important devotional and exegetical treatise at the intersection of ḥadīth, Shiʿi devotion, and Anatolian Sufism.
