【Summary】

Mīr Taqī al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Sharaf al-Dīn ʿAlī Ḥusaynī Kāshānī—widely known as Mīr Tadhkira and using the pen name Dhikrī—was a prominent poet and prose writer of the Safavid period. Over nearly forty years (976–1016 A.H.), he compiled Khulāṣat al-Ashʿār wa Zubdat al-Afkār, one of the most extensive Persian biographical anthologies of poets.

The complete work consists of an introduction in four chapters, four main sections, a conclusion, and a supplement, spanning six volumes and covering approximately 870 poets from early periods to the author’s contemporaries. The concluding section alone includes biographies of more than 410 poets of the tenth century A.H., arranged into twelve divisions, each devoted to a particular city or geographical region of Iran.

The present volume is dedicated to poets from Tabriz, Azerbaijan, and their surrounding regions. Its introduction not only presents the poets of this area but also examines the cultural milieu of Tabriz as a dār al-salṭana (royal capital), its role in the spread of wuqūʿī tendencies in the arts, and the historical formation of the concept and terminology of wuqūʿ in Persian poetry.
