A collection of seven Persian heroic poems—short and long—published independently for the first time, offering valuable material for the study of epic tradition, mythic motifs, and the historical development of Persian heroic poetry.
This volume, titled Seven Heroic Poems, brings together seven Persian epic narratives of varying length, published here independently for the first time. The poems included are: Bīzhan-nāma, Kak Kūhzād-nāma, Babr-i Bayān, Dāstān-i Patyāra, Tahmīna-nāma (Short), Tahmīna-nāma (Long), and Razm-nāma-yi Shakavandkūh.
All seven works belong to the tradition of heroic and chivalric epics and are clearly composed in imitation of the epic model established by Ferdowsi’s Shāhnāma. While the influence of that masterpiece is evident throughout, these poems are nonetheless significant for mythological and epic studies, as well as for tracing the historical evolution of Persian epic composition. In addition, they offer noteworthy literary and lexical features that merit scholarly attention.
