【Summary】
This four-volume work is the first comprehensive bibliography dedicated to Persian-language books printed in the Indian subcontinent, covering India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh from the beginning of Persian printing in the region (1781) through 2007. It documents approximately 11,000 Persian titles across more than 20,000 editions, including lithographic, typographic, offset, facsimile, and digital prints.
The bibliography is arranged thematically, with internal alphabetical ordering of titles, except for poetic works, which are organized alphabetically by poets’ pen names. In addition to independent Persian books, the work includes anthologies, translations, commentaries, and editions containing Persian texts. All known editions of each work are recorded chronologically.
This bibliography demonstrates the central role of the Indian subcontinent as the most active global hub of Persian book production during the nineteenth century and highlights its continued importance in the twentieth century, even after the political partition of the region. It serves as an indispensable reference for scholars of Persian literature, Islamic intellectual history, book history, and print culture. The fourth volume includes extensive indexes to facilitate research and consultation.
