This work documents a theological debate held by Sayyid Muḥammad Mahdī Burūjirdī Ṭabāṭabāʾī, widely known as Bahr al-ʿUlum, with Jewish interlocutors in Dhū al-Kifl in 1212 A.H. Such recorded debates between Muslims—particularly Shiʿi scholars—and Jews are extremely rare, making this text a valuable source for the study of interreligious encounters in Iran.

Previous scholarship had suggested that the debate may have circulated in two distinct textual versions. Through a careful examination of all surviving manuscripts, the editors demonstrate that this assumption is unlikely and that all extant copies derive from a single recension. The volume presents a critically edited Arabic account of the debate alongside a Persian translation, which was most likely produced several decades later by Muḥammad Kāẓim Hazārjarībī. The book offers important insights into Shiʿi polemical discourse, Jewish–Muslim relations, and the intellectual history of interfaith dialogue in the late Safavid and early Qajar periods.
