【Summary】

Founded in 1873, the University of the Punjab in Lahore maintains one of the oldest and largest academic libraries in Pakistan. Its manuscript department, established in 1920, currently preserves more than 22,500 manuscript volumes, making it the largest manuscript repository in the country. Approximately 14,500 manuscripts are written in Persian, Arabic, Urdu, and regional languages of Pakistan, while around 9,000 manuscripts are in Sanskrit.

This two-volume catalogue presents a complete description of Persian manuscripts from previously uncatalogued collections, including the Azad, Pirzada, Shirani, Kaifi, and General Collections. In addition to newly catalogued materials, earlier catalogues have been carefully reviewed and revised, with expanded codicological and bibliographical data. The work constitutes a fundamental reference tool for the study of Persian manuscript culture, Indo-Persian intellectual history, and the transmission of scholarly traditions in South Asia.
