【Summary】
Risālah-yi Jild-sāzī is a didactic poem devoted to the craft of bookbinding and represents the only known Persian-language work composed specifically to teach binding techniques. Written in verse, the treatise offers practical guidance on the processes and skills required for traditional Islamic bookbinding.
The work was first edited and published by Īraj Afshār in the journal Farhang-i Īrān-Zamīn, based on the only manuscript known at the time. The discovery of a second manuscript in recent years made it possible to correct deficiencies in the earlier edition. This publication is based on the newly identified manuscript, with reference to the earlier printed version, and offers a more reliable text for the study of Persian codicology and artisanal literature.
