A commemorative volume dedicated to Zabihollah Safa, one of the most influential scholars of Persian literary history, focusing on his academic legacy, textual scholarship, and critical editions of classical Persian works.
This volume is devoted to the scholarly life and academic contributions of Zabihollah Safa, one of the founding figures of modern Persian literary studies and among the earliest distinguished professors of literature at the University of Tehran. Safa is best known for his monumental multi-volume History of Persian Literature, which covers Persian literary production up to the early Qajar period.
In addition to his work in literary history, Safa played a major role in the critical editing and publication of classical Persian texts, often accompanied by extensive annotations and scholarly commentary. Born in 1911 in Shahmirzad (Semnan), he earned one of the earliest doctoral degrees from the University of Tehran, later serving for many years as dean of the Faculty of Letters. He passed away in 1999 in Lübeck, Germany.
As the sixth volume in the Miras Maktoob festschrift series, this book brings together studies that critically examine Safa’s editions, research methods, and lasting influence on Persian literary scholarship.
