【Summary】
ʿAlī-nāma is a Shiʿi epic poem dating back to the 5th century A.H., composed in 482 A.H. by a poet known by the name or pen name Rabiʿ. Very little is known about the poet’s life; he was born in 420 A.H. and most likely composed the poem in the region of Khurasan. The work was dedicated to ʿAlī b. Ṭāhir ʿArīżī, the ruler of Sabzevar.
The poem is organized into two books and presents poetic accounts of the battles of Jamal and Siffin. As one of the earliest surviving examples of Shiʿi epic poetry in Persian, ʿAlī-nāma holds significant value for the study of Persian literary history, Shiʿi religious literature, and the development of historical and heroic narratives in Islamic Iran.
