A commemorative volume dedicated to Muḥammad Muʿīn, a pioneering Iranian scholar of Persian language and literature and the first recipient of a doctoral degree in Persian studies in Iran.
This volume is devoted to the life, scholarly achievements, and intellectual legacy of Muḥammad Muʿīn (1914–1971), one of the most influential figures in modern Iranian philology and lexicography. Born in Rasht, Muʿīn completed his early education in his hometown and at the Dār al-Fonūn in Tehran before entering higher studies in literature and philosophy.
In 1943, he became the first scholar in Iran to receive a doctoral degree in Persian language and literature from the University of Tehran. He began teaching at the university level in 1939 and remained actively engaged in research and instruction until illness forced him to withdraw from academic life. His contributions laid foundational standards for Persian literary studies, lexicography, and academic scholarship in Iran.
The present festschrift brings together biographical studies and scholarly reflections that highlight Muʿīn’s decisive role in shaping modern Persian studies and his enduring influence on subsequent generations of researchers.
