Original Title: Jāmiʿ al-Tavārīkh: tārīkh-i salāṭīn-i Khwārazm
A section of the universal chronicle Jāmiʿ al-Tavārīkh, documenting the history and reigns of the Khwārazmian rulers. Compiled under the supervision of Rashīd al-Dīn Faḍl Allāh Hamadānī, this work represents a major source for medieval Islamic historiography.
Rashīd al-Dīn Faḍl Allāh Hamadānī was a physician, scholar, and one of the most influential historians of the Ilkhanid period, serving as vizier under Ghāzān Khān, Öljaitü, and at the beginning of the reign of Abū Saʿīd. His access to the court and administrative experience enabled him to supervise the production of large-scale historical works of exceptional scope and methodological rigor.
Jāmiʿ al-Tavārīkh is the most prominent of these works. Although not written entirely by Rashīd al-Dīn himself, it was compiled by teams of scholars and translators under his direct supervision. The present volume focuses on the history of the Khwārazmian sultans and constitutes an essential source for understanding political power, dynastic succession, and historical narrative in the eastern Islamic world.
