【Summary】

The History of Shah Safi was composed by Abū al-Mafākhir al-Ḥusaynī Tafreshī, a historian and poet active during the reigns of Shah Abbas I and Shah Safi I. The work covers the period from 1038 to 1052 AH (1628–1642 CE), corresponding to the entire reign of Shah Safi.
Despite its concise format, the chronicle preserves a substantial body of political, military, social, and literary information. Its principal value lies in the detailed insights it offers into the administrative and military conditions of Safavid Iran during Shah Safi’s rule.
In addition to its historical content, the text is notable for its stylistic features in both prose and verse, as well as for the scattered but valuable observations it provides on social life. As such, it represents an important example of Persian historiography and literary style in the 11th century AH.

The volume also bears relevance to Mabādiʾ-i Tārīkh-i Zamān-i Nawwāb Riḍwān-Makān (Shah Safi) by Muḥammad-Ḥusayn al-Ḥusaynī Tafreshī, the author’s brother. That unfinished chronicle covers only the years 1038–1041 AH (1628–1631 CE), yet remains an independent and valuable eyewitness source for the early years of Shah Safi’s reign.
