The collected poems of ʿAbd al-Qādir Nāʾīnī, the earliest known poet of Nāʾīn, notable for his poetic responses (mujāwabāt) to major figures of classical Persian literature.
ʿAbd al-Qādir Nāʾīnī is a poet of the seventh century A.H. and the earliest known poet from the city of Nāʾīn in Isfahan. The most distinctive feature of his poetic corpus is his mujāwabāt (poetic responses), a series of qaṣīdas composed in reply to renowned poets such as Nāṣir-i Khusraw, Saʿdī, and others. These dialogical poems are of particular literary and historical interest.
The present collection assembles Nāʾīnī’s surviving poems from a wide range of sources, including classical anthologies (jung), miscellanies (safīna), and early lexicographical works. This edition thus provides the first coherent and critical presentation of the poetic legacy of one of the earliest identifiable regional voices in Persian poetry.
