【Summary】

Humāyūn-nāmah is a large-scale, versified historical work composed by Ḥakīm Zajjājī in the 7th century A.H., deliberately modeled on the epic structure and style of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh. In this poem, the author narrates major historical events from the beginnings of Islam up to his own lifetime, blending historiography with epic poetic form.

The work also contains panegyrical passages dedicated to major political and administrative figures of the period, including Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad Juvaynī and Ṣadr al-Dīn Aḥmad Khālidī Zanjānī. The second half of Humāyūn-nāmah had previously been published independently. With the discovery of a manuscript preserving the earlier portion of the text, the present edition offers for the first time the complete first half of the work, comprising Volumes 1 and 2. This publication significantly enhances our understanding of medieval Persian verse historiography and its relationship to epic tradition.
