【Summary】
Bah-Guzīn-i ʿAlī-Nāmah is a selected edition of the earliest known Shiʿi epic poem in Persian, originally composed in 482 A.H., approximately fifty years after the completion of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh. The original ʿAlī-Nāmah consists of 11,220 verses composed in the mutaqārib meter, closely following the formal and stylistic model of Persian heroic epic while introducing explicitly Shiʿi religious subject matter.
This volume presents a carefully curated selection of 4,234 verses from the original poem, prepared and edited by Sayyid ʿAlī Mūsawī Garmārūdī, accompanied by a substantial scholarly introduction, explanatory notes, and lexical glosses. The work occupies a pivotal position in the history of Persian narrative poetry, marking the earliest fusion of Shiʿi religious themes with the epic tradition established by Ferdowsi, and offering invaluable insight into the development of sectarian literary expression in early Persian literature.
