Original Title: Badāyiʿ al-Akhbār: vaqāyiʿ-i Bihbahān dar zamān-i ḥamla-yi Maḥmūd Afghān
A Persian eyewitness chronicle describing the Afghan invasion of Iran and the siege of Behbahan during the final years of the Safavid dynasty. Written by a local secretary, the work provides detailed accounts of resistance, political turmoil, and the rise and fall of Afghan rule.
Badāyiʿ al-Akhbār is an important historical source from the final phase of Safavid rule. The book covers four main topics: the arrival of Maḥmūd Afghān in Iran and the fall of Isfahan; the 36-day resistance of the people of Behbahan against Afghan forces; the rule of a false claimant known as Ṣafī Mīrzā in Behbahan; and the eventual collapse of Ashraf Afghān’s authority.
The author, a local secretary of Behbahan, recorded these events based on direct observation. Written in a highly ornate and formal prose style, the work appears to have influenced later historical writings, including Jahāngushā-yi Nādirī. The volume also includes five additional reports concerning Afghan attacks on Isfahan and cities in northern and southern Khorasan.
