【Summary】

This work is a Persian translation of the notes of Matteo Ricci, leader of the Jesuit mission to China, originally written in Italian, later translated into Latin, and published in 1615. Ricci was commissioned by the Jesuit headquarters in Rome to document his daily experiences and missionary activities in China.
The present book corresponds to the first part of those notes, which provides a general overview of China, its people, customs, and social structure. The translation was carried out directly from Latin into Persian by Muḥammad Zamānī, a renowned Iranian painter and founder of a major artistic school. As such, Chīn-nāmah stands as an important early Persian source on China based on direct European observation.
