This work is one of the earliest surviving historical sources of Zaydi historiography, authored by Abū Ṭālib Yaḥyā b. Ḥusayn al-Hārūnī, a prominent and prolific Zaydi scholar.
Al-Ifādah fī tārīkh al-aʾimmah al-sādah is regarded as the third major work in the Zaydi historical tradition and holds exceptional importance for understanding the history of Zaydism, particularly among the Alids of Ṭabaristān and northern Iran.
The information preserved in this book served as a foundational source for later Zaydi historians, many of whom relied directly on al-Hārūnī’s accounts. In addition to this historical work, the author produced influential writings in theology—such as al-Daʿāmah fī tathbīt al-imāmah and Mabāniʾ al-adillah fī al-kalām—as well as in jurisprudence, including al-Taḥrīr and al-Nāẓim.
